All About Hunter Gatherer Diet (Paleo Diet)

Hunter gatherer diet also referred to as paleo diet can be described as a diet plan based on wild animals and plants which our ancestors, millions of years ago (in the Paleolithic era), were used to consume. The modern hunter gatherer diet or paleo diet excludes all types of processed and farm foods and contains fruits, nuts, fish, meat, roots etc.

The reason why many people admire the diet plan is pretty simple. Humans living in the wild as hunter gatherer were physically fit and free of ailments like depression, arthritis, heart disease, diabetes etc. They did not have to wear glasses as their eye sight was strong. These illnesses and over weight problems came with the improvement of technology, so why not return to that and live a hale and hearty life.

Even the foods which we get from farms aren’t acceptable in paleo diet such as sugar, potatoes, beans, grains, dairy products etc. The diet should consist of berries, meat, fish, fruits, nuts, roots etc. that hunter gatherers used to eat.

This will significantly alter the vitamin intake and reduce calorie consumption. You can start with getting the paleo diet in the breakfast everyday. And then as you get used to it, you can have it in all 3 meals.

Mark Sisson, a former world-class endurance athlete with a degree in biology has published a book about this called as primal blueprint. In his book he presented primal blueprint diet plan based on the hunter gatherer diet and in addition suggests a few other features like lifting heavy things, moving around at a slow speed, lots of sleep etc. mostly the things which hunter gatherers were accustomed to do. And he recommends that it is the eventual way to stay fit and maintain an optimal figure.

You’ll find a huge number of diet plans available today and hundreds are arriving every month, nearly all of which have success rate below 10%. May be moving a couple of steps back and adopting the paleo diet would be the most effective choice for you.
